Large diameter pipes and culverts represent the backbone of any city’s utility network for the collection and disposal of sewage and effective drainage of stormwater. In many cases the fabric of these pipelines, which may consist of brick, stone, concrete or clayware will have been constructed decades ago and although proven resilient, has eventually succumbed to the ravages of time, suffering the effects of H2S attack or erosion and may even be exhibiting signs of imminent failure due to structural loading beyond that of its remaining capability.
At this point, the need arises to consider the means by which the structural rehabilitation of these pipelines and ducts can be achieved whereby a new, 100-year plus life expectancy can be provided with a high degree of confidence. We will be discussing how INFRASTEEL® is a permanent culvert rehabilitation system, designed to give cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternatives to culvert preservation and rehabilitation.
Culverts slip lined with INFRASTEEL® frequently exceed the load bearing capacity of new, stand-alone structures. Higher yield strengths are also available when needed to provide additional structural support. INFRASTEEL® is manufactured to match the exact shape of the existing structure. The structure has a Manning's coefficient of .012 which improves water flow rates through the culvert. INFRASTEEL® is made from carbon steel with thicknesses from 1/2" to 2" thick, with a minimum yield strength of 36,000 psi. This allows the product to surpass all other products in structural integrity. INFRASTEEL® liners are engineered to exceed the load bearing capacity of new, stand-alone structures.

Whether you’re using our tried and true Spirolite pipe with gasketed bell and spigot joints, or our high-performance Spirolite EF which fuses the pipe ends together, you can count on tight, leak-free joints. When relining a deteriorating pipeline, the new liner pipe needs to offer superior flow characteristics since it is always smaller than the original host pipe. With a Manning’s N of .009, Spirolite offers superior flow even with a substantially smaller pipe ID. This makes it the ideal choice when compared to other types of liners. Plus, Spirolite’s hydraulic performance doesn’t change or deteriorate as the pipe ages, as is common in other types of pipe.
